First grade aides come from a grant, I thought. How does the district intend to pay for something else from grant funds earmarked for early intervention?
ReplyDeleteEliminating first grade aides is a HUGE mistake. Many students come from homes where English is not spoken and many others come from homes where literacy is not a priority. Children enter kindergarten already behind with little chance of ever catching up. The expectations for students continue to increase yet the services available for them decrease. What's wrong with this picture? You won't have rigor if you can't read. Let's hope for a budget miracle.
ReplyDeleteThis current budget is setting us up for educational disaster!
ReplyDeleteThose in favor of saving the first grade aides, pay attention. If these aides are being replaced by something that is already in the local budget, that is called supplanting. It is illegal. It can be reported to the State Department of Education, grants department.
ReplyDeleteSupplanting is only a problem with Title I not with priority school grants.
ReplyDeleteNOT TRUE, 11:53 AM. Call the State Department of Education, grants dept. and you will find out otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIf it is true with Title I, then the Literacy Teachers are illegally funded.
