Ponus Ridge Middle School on Hunters Lane will be closed Wednesday because of a broken pipe and water damage, according to the Norwalk schools website.
Superintendent Susan Marks said in an email Tuesday evening: "Due to the broken pipes today at Ponus, a cleaning crew has been at the school all day, however there is considerable damage in 6 classrooms, the administrative office, the nurses office and the hall. The building will not be ready to open tomorrow, because it won't be able to be sanitized until tomorrow due to the pipes still leaking."

What a shame. Any explanation as to what happened? Maybe some attention should be paid to the facilities already in place including routine maintenance to avoid this type of expense - although accidents like these do happen. I've heard stories about the heating systems being out of control and blasting heat in the summer months -seems like a terrible waste of money.
ReplyDeleteThere was a freeze up on the roof. One of the roof top unit heating coils froze up and burst during rethaw..The building was unoccupied from friday night till tuesday morning, with no one checking on the building during this time,so when people arrived tuesday morning the building was flooded..The control and temperature operations are handled by a third party. On at 7am and off at 3pm.Basically thats how the districts heating systems operate.
